Guidelines & Application Process
As of March 2008, The Harder Foundation is implementing an invitation-only application process and will no longer accept unsolicited letters of inquiry or proposals. Our objective is to serve our grantees better by freeing up staff time to focus on grantee strategies and collaborative efforts.
Organizations that are interested in submitting a grant proposal to The Harder Foundation must first contact Foundation staff. Staff will invite proposals based on annual priorities and strategies established by the Board of Trustees. An invitation to submit a proposal is not an indication that the proposal will be approved.
Organizations that are new to the Foundation, or those that have not received a grant in recent years, should review all of our criteria to determine whether there is a potential fit in terms of geography, funding focus, and strategic approach. See our Grantmaking Overview for more information. If you believe your organization is eligible for a grant, please call the Foundation office to request a meeting or phone call with Foundation staff, or email us at grants@theharderfoundation.org. Unfortunately, we cannot respond to unsolicited inquiries and proposals.
Returning grantees will need to contact the Foundation and speak to their program officer before submitting a proposal for 2008 funding. Please note that grant funds for Alaska and Off-Road Vehicle Recreation on Public Lands are fully committed for 2008.
